50,000 call on European Union to reject ban on use of 'veggie sausage' or 'veggie burger'
Over 50,000 people have now signed a petition against proposals to ban terms such as "burger" or "sausage" to describe meatless alternatives in the European Union.
Plans have been put forward to ban the use of the terms if the products don't contain meat.
But now a petition has reached almost 60,000 signatures urging the EU to reject the idea and allow companies to continue selling alternatives under these names.
The petition, called "Stop the Veggie Burger Burger Ban" was launched by ProVeg International.
"The European Union is set to ban the use of words such as ‘veggie burger’, ‘vegan sausage’, and ‘milk alternative’ in relation to plant-based foods. This is an unnecessary and patronising restriction which will stifle positive change. Please sign the petition now to stop this legislation from being passed."
