AMERICAN DAIRY COMPANY LAUNCHES 'NON-DAIRY' ALTERNATIVES - BUT DON'T CALL IT YOGURT
American dairy company Chobani has launched non-dairy options for the first time.
The yogurt replacements won't feature the term yogurt though.
The coconut-based products include single-serve cups and drinks with a variety of flavours.
Peter McGuinness, Chobani's chief marketing and commercial officer believes that the growth in plant-based products is similar to that in the growth of Greek yogurt.
He said: "We studied the aisle and we studied the options and we realized that it’s pretty small.
"What we were told–and this is directly from consumers–is that they would consume more non-dairy if it tasted better and it was better for you and so our view of this is maybe it’s only 2% because of the options out there."
He also told CNN that they won't be calling their non-dairy products yogurt or milk.
He said: "You can't call it a yogurt, we are being absolutely by the book because we think words matter."
