Australian dairy group calls for free milk in schools to “support industry”
An Australian dairy group has called on the government to support free milk in schools to help the industry.
United Dairy Farmers of Victoria (UDFV), say they are struggling following droughts.
President of UDFV Paul Mumford told news show Sunrise that the industry has been “under duress over a long period of time” with milk price crashes and the rising costs of water and feed.
He also stated that the scheme would help children get “nutrition”.
“What we are looking at is let’s get governments backing an industry but more importantly child nutrition.
“Yes it will help the industry that will see an increase in milk consumption here in Australia, but I think personally it’s more about food nutrition and good nutrition for our children.”
