British reality show “I’m a Celebrity...” will no longer see contestants eating live insects

ITV has revealed that British reality show I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here will not see contestants eating live insects his year.

Producers say this will be a permanent change to the show which sees celebrities compete in “bushtucker trials” including eating bugs and being buried alive.

Campaigners including the British Veterinary Association and BBC presenter Chris Packham has campaigned against the practice which won’t be taking place in the new series, launching next month.

Packham told BBC Radio 5 Live:

"I hope this is the start of some significant change.
"What's long concerned me about the programme is that is portrays animals in the wrong way.
"There was never any ambiguity that eating live invertebrates was abuse and also exploitation for entertainment."
