Climate skeptics write to UN saying plans to tackle global warming “undermine the economic system”

A group of climate skeptics has written to the United Nations declaring there is no climate emergency.

500 professionals signed the letter sent to António Guterres, Secretary-General of the U.N, warning that current policies “pointlessly and grievously undermine the economic system.”

Professor Guus Berkhout of The Netherlands, who organized the Declaration, said:

“So popular is the Declaration with scientists and researchers worldwide that signatories are flooding in not only from within Europe but also from other countries such as the United States and Canada, Australia and New Zealand.”

The group’s letter warns the U.N. that “the general-circulation models of climate on which international policy is at present founded are unfit for their purpose.”

Robert Brulle, an expert on climate science denial, told DeSmog, it appeared to be a lot of hot air.

He said:

“The talking points are stale and patently scientific nonsense. That isn’t critical. The point would be to keep the ‘contested’ nature of climate change alive.”
