Flamingo euthanized at Illinois zoo after child throws rock in exhibit
A flamingo, held at a zoo in Illinois, has been euthanized after being hit with a rock.
A young child threw a rock in the inclosure at Miller Park Zoo.
The zoo said it wants to make sure this is a “learning experience” and called it “a truly unfortunate accident.”
Director Jay Tetzloff said:
“A juvenile guest accidentally injured a flamingo on Monday by skipping a rock into the habitat.
“Unfortunately, staff determined the best course of action given the animal's injuries was to euthanize the bird.”
