Homeless shelter for young people and companion animals to open in Toronto

A new homeless shelter will allow young people to stay with their companion animals.

Youthlink is opening the site in Scarborough, Toronto later this month.

The shelter will be for 15 to 24 year olds and will have a kennel for their non-human friends.

Evan Back, who has been fundraising for the shelter told the Toronto Sun, “You’ve seen them on the street with their dogs. None of theses kids asked for this, but they turn down help and shelter because they would never take refuge and leave their best friend on the street. Their dog is their sole confidant,”

The shelter will have vets on site to give care to the companion animals.

The site will be open in mid-March.
