IOWA UNDERCOVER SLAUGHTERHOUSE AND FACTORY FARM INVESTIGATION BAN 'UNCONSTITUTIONAL' - COURT RULES
Iowa's District Court says the Iowa Aggriculture Gagging (Ag-Gag) law is unconstitutional, meaning that undercover investigations at factory farms and slaughterhouses can take place.
The court ruled that the law violates the First Amendment. Iowa’s Ag-Gag law criminalizes undercover investigations with no investigations have taken place since 2012.
Animal Legal Defense Fund Executive Director Stephen Wells welcomed the news. He said: "Ag-Gag laws are a pernicious attempt by animal exploitation industries to hide some of the worst forms of animal abuse in the United States.
"Today’s victory makes it clear that the government cannot protect these industries at the expense of our constitutional rights."
