Penguin ice skating event in London cancelled
An event that would've allowed ice skaters in London to take to the ice with live penguins has been cancelled.
Queens Skate Dine Bowl was planning to host the event to mark Penguin Awareness Day.
But following pressure from activists on social media they decided to pull the event.
In a post on Facebook they said:
"The event was intended as a non-profit, educational & accessible experience to increase awareness and education about this beloved engaged sea-bird, with monies to be raised for BirdLife International. Helping penguins who are endangered in their natural habitat.
"Sadly due to the concerns raised by various animal protection groups including PETA & Freedom for Animals – we have had to cancel the event in the interest of the penguins & our guests.
Anyone who purchased a ticket for the event will be fully refunded.
