Plant extinction rate ‘bad news for all species’
Over 550 species of plant have gone extinct over the past 250 years according to a new report.
It states that it is bad news for human and nonhuman animals.
The new report was published in a journal called Nature, Ecology & Evolution.
The research shows some animal species are losing habitats in certain areas.
Co-author Eimear Nic Lughadha said in a statement:
"Plants underpin all life on earth, they provide the oxygen we breathe and the food we eat, as well as making up the backbone of the world's ecosystems—so plant extinction is bad news for all species.
"Millions of other species depend on plants for their survival, humans included."
