Popular plant-based London bakery Ms. Cupcake to close after a decade in business
The owner of vegan bakery Ms. Cupcake has announced it will be closing it’s doors next month.
The popular cake shop, thought to be London’s first vegan bakery, began as a market stall a decade ago, with owner Mellissa Morgan opening a shop a year later.
She said in a statement the decision was made with vegan products “readily available on the high street” and “continued rent rises and soaring expenses” in mind.
In a statement released today, Mellissa, aka Ms. Cupcake, said:
“Back in 2010, I began a small market stall in London. The aim was to convince people that vegan baking could be indulgent, decadent and delicious.
“By April 2011, we opened the doors to the UK’s first entirely vegan retail bakery—Ms. Cupcake in Brixton.
“In the beginning we had one goal,—bring vegan baking to the high street and help spread the word that cruelty-free CAN be delicious.”
