Quebec Cattle Producers Federation lodge complaint over the term ‘meat’
A group of cattle farmers have complained to Canada’s Food Inspection Agency over Beyond Meat’s use of the term “meat.”
The federations Vice-President spoke to CBC and explained that it was unfair as the Beyond Meat product was largely made from pea protein.
“We have to uphold all the rules. We just want a fair, level playing field."
“Do not use the term 'meat' because it already has its own definition.
“We just want to make sure that the consumer doesn't get confused in this.”
Complaining about terminology seems to be a trend at the moment with the European Union discussing terms like “burger” and Seafood Australia recently complaining about a company selling a tuna-substitute called Tuno.
