Trump administration allows import of black rhino horn and skull following trophy hunt
A permit has been issued for a Michigan trophy hunter to import the skin, skull and horn of a black rhino to the United States.
An application was put in last year following a trophy hunt in Nambia, which the Trump administration has approved.
The black rhino is an engangered species but five male rhinos a year can be killed legally by hunters.
Laury Parramore, spokeswoman for the Fish and Wildlife Service said:
"Legal, well-regulated hunting as part of a sound management program can benefit the conservation of certain species by providing incentives to local communities to conserve the species and by putting much-needed revenue back into conservation."
According to NBC news, federal regulators issued no import permits for black rhinos, but the Obama administration approved three imports, with two so far from the Trump administration.
