TV host John Oliver points out cow farts aren’t part of the Green New Deal
Last Week Tonight host John Oliver took a look at the Green New Deal and climate change on the hit show yesterday.
The Green New Deal was proposed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in an effort to tackle the climate emergency.
The comedian pointed out that the Bill has already been voted down but that people are still talking about it six weeks later.
Oliver also highlighted the fact that TV reports about “cow farts” were off the mark.
He showed how the this was a joke made in an early press release from AOC’s team.
The British host also said:
“Most cow methane comes from them belching, not farting, and if you only remember one fact from tonight’s show, please don’t let it be that one.”
The Green New Deal actually barely mentions anything about animal agriculture with one part stating:
“The Green New Deal goals should be accomplished through a 10-year national mobili- zation that will require the following goals and projects
“Working collaboratively with farmers and ranchers in the United States to remove pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector as much as is techno- logically feasible, including:
“By supporting family farming; by investing in sustainable farm- ing and land use practices that increase soil health; and building a more sustainable food system that ensures universal access to healthy food.”
