UK wildlife dying out with huge drop in populations since 1970s
A new report shows wildlife in the UK is dying out at a rapid rate.
The State of Nature draws on data recorded from the 1970s.
It revealed 41% of species have decreased in abundance, with the report warning wildlife declines continue.
15 per cent of the mammals and plants monitored are threatened with being lost from the UK, with 133 species vanishing since 1500.
Dr Daniel Hayhow from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds said:
“We know more about the UK’s wildlife than any other country on the planet, and what it is telling us should make us sit up and listen.
“We need to respond more urgently across the board if we are to put nature back where it belongs.”
