UN report to warn 1 million species at risk due to human-made biodiversity crisis
A UN report due to be published later will warn that one million animal or plant species will be wiped out if we don’t act over biodiversity.
The report, called The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, will say we are reaching a danger zone for humanity.
A draft of the study was leaked on Friday with the report set to be published later.
Robert Watson, the chair of the IPBES said:
“There is no question we are losing biodiversity at a truly unsustainable rate that will affect human wellbeing both for current and future generations.
“We are in trouble if we don’t act, but there are a range of actions that can be taken to protect nature and meet human goals for health and development.”
